I’m just a smalltown boy.
I’ve always wanted to start some kind of soliloquy with that, but I’ll take what I can get in life and use it here. I’m writing this in Word, which kind of trips me out, I’m used to blogger, but my roommate and his girlfriend decided to blowdry their hair simultaneously (?) and that tripped some circuits and the power in the house is weird and now everything’s back working except the garage lights and the internet. At least my Airport is working again, I’d like to act like I fixed it but in reality it just started working out of left field. I’m consistently scared by the random nature of modern technology. And right now I’m internet-less which also scares and confuses me, and this fear and confusion produces even more mixed emotions I’m not willing to get in touch with.
But I digress.
At least m83 is there waiting for me.
We played a fraternity show tonight, which I’m still in relative shock from, just culturally. From the bathrooms that resemble what I imagine Fallujah looks like (and these people share them with living space as well), to the guy describing having sex with a girl on a wooden trolley in the green room while searching for the bloody shirt he threw in the closet as proof he did it (wtf?), to DJ Epidemic playing Sweet Home Alabama before our set to raucous response, to random lapdances, to the guy getting a handjob by the pool, to every available college stereotype possible manifesting (the big guy pounding beers, the super drunk chick, that one black guy, the flasher chick, the creepy old dude etc). It was kinda amazing on a number of levels, we couldn’t even perform in sync (or even move, for that matter) because of all the girls that came on stage for Centerfold, the crowd was down for whatever, and it was kinda just anything goes in the best way possible.
After that got that always regrettable California Burrito, and did whatever I could to get this one song by The Formula out of my head (its kinda awesome, not gonna lie) so I could get to writing without the homie Poncho’s voice in my head.
