"944 has compiled the individuals who are trying to push the envelope in valley nightlife- whether that's through building visionary spaces, reinvigorating established hotspots or creating a new scene altogether. These are some of the faces who will define where to go, what pumps through the speakers and who the new V.I.P.S will be. This is the list."
Whew. So the first couple people are the guy opening the W hotel, a sushi restaurant entrepreneur, an owner of Jackrabbit, Matty Salazar (holla!) and then the inevitable Silver Medallion page.
Silver Medallion
The Next Big Thing
"You know you've heard it. You know you've seen them. In fact, it would be almost impossible to go anywhere in the Valley without running into Silver Medallion or hearing their track "Scottsdale" through a sound system. While Oren J and Carnegie have only been laying down rhymes and electro beats together for less than six-months, they have established themselves as a group to watch thanks to their killer live show and nonstop work ethic. Case in point, the duo has 12 shows lined up for August, with other gigs in the works for Las Vegas and Japan. Oren J. says "We make music to pop bottles to." We say Silver Medallion makes music to take the party to the next level."
This is accompanied by the most ridiculous picture we've ever taken. Backstory: we had our first night at Furio performing, we did it big at PCL (at some point Biggie's Gimme The Loot came on and I was double-fisting vodka water rapping with g and carn), crashed at Art's crib at about 5 and had this photo shoot at 9am, which is why I look a hot mess (and I'm wearing the suit from the night before). Carnegie is also getting his hair cut, and I'm wearing a suit with no shirt and a pair of converse around my neck. The props they had for us included 70's anti-cocaine propaganda books, which we're both holding (???). After this we ate at the Hometown Buffet (???), and I crashed out about 6 hours, and the picture is AZ history.
Not quite ready to return to life in AZ, lying facedown in the sand on the north shore is more my desired speed of life, but you only get to be young/ignorant/wild once.
I can't wait for the expose where we get to tell the backstory of all this uncensored, the things going on behind the scenes here (where Carnegie got his clothes from, why Art's in the picture, the fact that we've been broke this whole time), until then it's a funny road.
Props to DB Mitchell (the writer), Brian Kelly, Eddie, Dow, Reedy and everyone else at 944 who had a hand in making this possible and allowing me to quote people ridiculous prices for shows on the phone ("where in Tempe? We're gonna need 7 thousand dollars. What? Haven't you seen the 944?" lol).
