Alright.
So I don't like El-P, he just seems like a pretentious ass. And I believe he's responsible for destroying the incarnation of Aesop Rock that I actually liked, and turning him into this pseudo-futuristic Brooklynite cyber rapper. What happened to the poetry?
But. His videos have always been crazy. Peep Deep Space 9mm, placed way at the bottom so it doesn't distract you from Smithereens
his new single where the video brutally reinacts Abu Ghraib imagery while he's rapping. Never mind that his music sounds like a homeless man mumbling over distorted organ grinders somewhere in a post nuclear Montana. In fact, put it on silent and just watch. It brings to mind, as does the video below, who is a terrorist? One who speaks his mind under the eye of an ever watchful government? One who then takes those beliefs to mass media? Which brings me to my second topic. The New York Times is the sole host of this video for some unknown reason, possibly promotion for hip hop nerds to read the paper and for old liberals to get into music on Definitive Jux? But they won't give you embed codes, just permanent links so you can't actually put the video anywhere, so they get the big brother pseudo Big 6 record label award for being uncool. Thus the link you have to click.
When watching this, bear in mind, does Don Cheadle make a cameo? Is that Cage dressed like a nun?
Hopefully, you will never have to hear anything about El-P ever again.
But hey, beats the Mike Jones video earlier this week.
Oh, conceptual music videos.
