Exhausting few days.
In the last week I've been in and out of every possible type of NY nightlife, from electro at Plan B to b-boys at Element to rich kids at Pink Elephant to hood parties on Flatbush to beautiful people at Tenjune to $1 beers by Columbia to tourists at the Bowery Hotel Bar and back again.
Now that I think I have a more solid understanding of what's going on in nightlife (Scottsdale warps warps warps the mind) I'm back to getting my dj thing together (didn't haul the turntables here for nothing) which is hours upon hours on bittorrent, blogs and forums getting all sorts of ridiculousness (147 crunk acapellas? why yes...). Been a while since I've put together a dj cd, and now that I'm not trying to spin electro anymore I've got a lot of options as to where I can go with the style.
Doing invites out here just leads to more and more business, so I'm revamping the website further to take the graphic style I'm trying to present with Easel into a more fashion-oriented direction. I've been studying logos by Baron & Baron, grabbed a stack of Interview magazine's to look at layouts and I'm trying to put together a stable approach to an eclectic website (if that makes any sense).
One good thing about NY is that living and working alone gets me far more in touch with the far corners of my mind, and being in a less judgemental environment allows me to actually embrace my ideas rather than discount everything as impractical for my audience.
I'm beginning to realize its gonna take months to years to unwork all the flaws Scottsdale has put into my thought processes and workflow, crazy to think about.
