So.
Apparently Interscope is out of money, and making bad decisions.
Funkmaster Flex aired them out on Hot 97 and threatened to not play Interscope music. Word on the street is that's based on them doing artist promos on another station, when HOT 97 is the one that's been breaking their records, which is pretty shady.
But the other word is is they're being paid for those promos by the radio (reverse payola?) and they have so little money they won't even be able to legally pursue it if their artists break contract to go to other labels.
The question here is "where did the money go?"
Interscope was the most successful label of the 2000's, and their lineup is bananas. They have a classic lineup: Sheryl Crow, U2, Weezer, The Cure etc. A powerhouse lineup: Eminem, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Timbalaand. A new school superstar lineup: Lady Gaga, Akon, Pussycat Dolls, All American Rejects, Soljah Boy. And a shady new school lineup: Wale, LMFAO, Charles Hamilton Etc.
Now how does a label with that kind of lineup go broke? CD sales are down drastically, but the newer artists have 360 deals so the label sees some of everything... They can't be wasting so much money on weak artists (Wale, LMFAO, Charles Hamilton lol) that they go broke... At least I hope not.
Interesting times for the industry, very happy with the choice to go indie, at least for now.
