Trying to do a show a day for the large scope of the month of May. Maybe do 25.
So far we have about 7? Two shows with Cory Gunz and Currency (irrelevant rap!!), two shows at Martini Ranch (white people!!), show in Hawaii at First Fridays (hipsters!!), Cinco De Mayo at Macayos (drunks!!), release party at Axis (douchebags!!), Asher Roth at Venue (more white people!!).
How do we go about getting shows? We had a hookup at Macayo's so we went down today and played the cd and it fit in tune with their new "dance party" addition to the lineup. Now that we have such a diverse backround its super easy to have people give us a chance. 60 shows! Everything from covers at Furio to festivals at Iguana Max to the Scottsdale superclubs to Spring Break with the radio, we have experience with a ton of crowds.
I used to put a lot of stress on the press kit and booking card, but in reality its just talking to people directly. Last night I went out to an industry only concert at Venue with Roger Klien and the Peacemakers, all sponsored by Corona, and met a lot of GM's and promoters I'd forgotten existed. I need that gig, those guys are probably getting 5 to 10k a night to play private events and the checks come right from Corona.
We're looking to lock down a Monday at Zuma, a Wednesday at Pinky Ring and a few other weeknight odds and ends (Tuesday at DP, Wednesday at PCL, Wednesdays at Am Junk, another night at Cream, random night at Vintage etc) in the next few days, the minimum we get now is 200, and it gets up to about 5 frequently, so the shows are nothing to laugh at anymore, if we do 20+ a month we're looking at a very significant amount of money (albeit split between three people and commissions). Looking forward to spending June in LA doing shows.
Roger Klien was kinda awesome, I'd never heard him before (I went with old people) but all their songs are about crossing the border and drinking Tequila and avoiding federales and the guys were super nice backstage "Oh you're a singer too? I thought the world only revolved around me!" so everyone gets the thumbs up.
Tomorrow we meet with SLE about more shows and 944 about intergrating our content.
