RIP Polaroid

The Shwayze cd has become my guilty pleasure music. He can't rap for beans and the beats suck and every song is corny and wack and for some reason I just eat it up. I hope this doesn't mean I'm getting old...

I remember my first Atmosphere concert my first week of college, Chris picked me up in a poor man's version of a Delorean, some strange Lincoln (maybe?) with a voice activated computer system and an 80's whip death wish. We saw Atmosphere and Heiroglyphics at Nita's Hideaway (RIP) and it was kinda awesome and we went to a great house party after. These were back in the college days when I would get off of work at Chic Fil A (oh yeah, gotta love fast food jobs) and we'd all pool like 5 bucks a piece amongst eight dudes and tap shoulder to get two handles from Jerry's and drink as fast as we could until it was gone and then walk to house parties because no one had a car.

Today I sent out a million invites for all star events (Spyder 2.0!) and me and The Kid went on a mission to get the dj/drums thing set up in the crib and hours later we went at it for a good hour with him banging away on his really nice drums and me spinning all the things I want to spin but never can (Felix Cartal into Mehdi into Fashen's Shook One's Remix into Little Boots into Dave Nada into god knows what...) and it was pretty exhilarating. You can't beat the jam session, real talk.

My freshman year memories are so strange, like when half the crew took mushrooms and one kid walked through the sprinklers arms out like he was Jesus trying to speak in tongues and me and one girl ditched all of the crazies and wandered under a building (no ids and no cars had us really hurting for things to do) and found ourselves in the hidden Telepathy Garden. Seriously wtf.

Cue Asher Roth's "I Love College". I actually kinda hated it but I did learn a few key skills, like how to make a deck and... I guess that's about it. I was worried a few months ago about all the alcohol we were drinking but thinking about it all, a few months ago had nothing whatsoever on sophomore year when it was about a bottle a day when I had community service and a job and a live in girlfriend and was still in the accounting program and life really sucked... I remember having a house party and some guy from the complex came in with a 30 pack of bud light and was everyone's friend until someone girlfriend was sitting on his lap and the beer ran out. This was around the time I had the WORST rap demo tape of all time and was sending it around.

The best part about all those shenanigans is the year after that I stopped drinking in my free time and started really making beats, and now we're here, and here is kinda awesome.

Ah, random 3am flashbacks. Just trying to preserve the memories.
