I blame the whole Dipset movement completely on Mase.
And I blame Ron Brown on Mase...
In fact I blame all Harlem related rap on Mase, and thus on Diddy, who has a lot to answer for.
So we're meeting with Jon Colombo down at the office (ie Kona Grill Happy Hour at Fashion Square), and discussing vids, and he wrote a treatment for Rob Brown's "Jumpin Out the Window" that involved the Matrix and Ron visiting the Oracle and then jumping out of windows to catch helicopters... The label didn't take the treatment, and apparently they are pulling the song back from airplay because of the very real problem of bankers/execs jumping our of their windows in Chicago/NY etc.
My man has a widget on his mac with the current number jumping banking related suicides since the crash that actually plays Ron Brown and shows me that programmers went from having way too much free time to having far more now that they're unemployed...
Back to Dipset.
Colombo, who shot our Scottsdale video (which we now have to clean up for the label, god help the poor person editing), just did a Dipset video for quite possibly the best mixtape track I've heard in forever. The verses are pretty much trash, the Jim Jones cameo is terrible, but they rip One Republic's Apologize and talk about the usual Dipset stuff (selling cocaine) and it's classic Harlem material (which isn't saying much).
The engineer who recorded this is a damn hog, the hook sounds AMAZING. All I remember is hanging out with Dipset peeps in NY and wondering just what the world was coming too... How did these people all get so much money (everyone, even the fall-guys have seemingly endless funds)?
God this Jim Jones verse is terrible. Literally listen/watch the first 20 seconds only, and only if you're in the under 25 demo of my readership, otherwise you'll probably lose brain cells. Knowing the people responsible for this makes me question my life choices lol.
