Santogold- I'ma Lady

I was listening to Santogold earlier today, having a few lunchtime beers, and I found myself pondering the strange pop sensation that was me listening to an artist I like drinking a product she's marketing (Bud Lime). I remember first seeing the various Bud commercials featuring the music of Brooklyn's Santogold, one of my favorite new artists of this last year, and remarking at what a good look that was for her music, and then I find myself endorsing the products that feature her music in some strange subconscious twist. Sigh.

In a related Santogold story DJ Noah Wylie played her twice last night at Skye Lounge in Peoria and earned some props. Despite some mashup choices that made our dj look sheerly horrified (we know the west side is a hard crowd homie, its all g), anyone who plays Santo/Kid Cudi/Whodini etc is fine in my book.

Whodini's "Freaks Come Out at Night" is the new Bel Div Devoe "Poison" for the current club climate. "Poison" was on every djs playlist the last year as an 80's joint they could drop and watch people step up the dance too, now with that played out I'm telling you watch out for Whodini...

And now on to my actual topic, Halloween at Homme Lounge for the infamous Pary Foul. Party Foul is a Friday night at Homme on Camelback and 1st Ave that is organized by DJ Kevin the Makeout Bandit (Kevin M.O.B.) and a supporting cast of ex-Glam (RIP) promoters and DJ's. I go there because they spin electro, bring hot guests and have cheap drinks, but there's a bevy of reasons the very eclectic mix ends up in the packed Friday spot.

Last night we played a headline show there with The Boom Kids, who pretty much killed it with a mix of electro-house and baltimore club music. Local dj powerhouse Fashen was originally on to spin, but got booked for some platinum gig elsewhere, can't hate on locals doing it big. It was a freak-show in all ways at Homme with the costumes and general hedonism, and we went on at about 12:45 to a full dancefloor that didn't miss a beat as we rolled through five songs.

They seem to have found the formula for ultimate dancefloor party success at Party Foul, spin four electro tracks (two remixes) then a classic party track, then a straight party banger, then more electro, repeat. I could be wrong, but it smashes the dancefloor every time I see it, DJ's Bigie, Epidemix, Craig C, BCAD and Kevin all can damn near do no wrong with the their sets, these kids love their style throughout the whole spot.

We never made it to the afterhours, but apparently The Modified did a pretty hot job, the second one I've heard that went off pretty well, keep your ears open for the next afterhours down there.

As a band, we love going down to Homme because we can do electro tracks and pretty much whatever our hearts desire and the crowd just wants to dance so as long as we're killin it and the beats are fast they'll mash out and make you feel on top of the world. Most of our gigs in AZ involve stunned members of the citizenry staring blankly at us for 30 minutes with their jaws dropped, so it's nice to be with some people who have seen far more craziness than us earlier in the evening and are there to DANCE and dance alone (and maybe go home with a stranger lol).

We showed up late to this gig coming from an earlier show on the West Side, Kevin told us he was worried we weren't gonna show (never worry, we might be a little late or completely out of it, but we'll be there, and the lateness/outofitness just adds ot the general fun anyway), but it was a mission getting back from 83rd ave and Bell (jesus). We were out there with DJ Soulman and the Phunk Junkeez for the "Hoteez and Hooligans" party with Camel (oh evil devils how you support our lifestyles with your marketing budgets, yes yes I'll have a cigarette) which was pretty dope, Phunk Junkeez gotta a hot show (gonna do a whole blog on them eventually, they got an interesting story) for the West Side crowd. Skye was a nice venue, interesting show all in all, our first time out that far west, but not the last.

Tonight we'll be down at Lyte Lounge for our going away party, we're leaving AZ for the majority of the month handling business for, give me time to think back and post some blogs about the events of the last month. Off to the W for an early drink a little later, selah!
