Spent my last night in Hawaii at the compound in Kahalu'u, making sure Chris and I got to map out the last of Form and Matter business before I left. Woke up the morning of leaving and drifted away in the hot tub in the backyard, surrounded by a canopy of jungle trees shaking in the tradewinds. After completing another stack of badly drawn sketch ups and charts depicting financial breakdowns and site layouts I was at the airport, then seatbelted down next to a 50+ ex-hollywood rocker turned glassblower moving to Tucson telling jokes while I tried to knock down the last hundred or so pages of the epic Quicksilver, probably the most engrossing thing I've read in years.
Touched down in AZ, DK was working past midnight (never be an accountant), Tyler luckily grabbed me up, we swooped Carnegie from Tempe I dropped my bags off and ended up at Groove Candy over at Lyte, hollered at Tranzit in PCL briefly before watching the doors close at Lyte and discussing why Karlie Hustle is Scottsdale's Something About Mary. First night back and already at Lyte, some things never change.
Next day was beastly in a number of ways. Biked to Safeway to get change to catch the bus, I took it last stop to last stop to get to ASU where they put a 5 day hold on my work checks from Hawaii, my client checks from New York and various other funds I'm trying to pool together, thus shutting down my dreams of buying a car and sound system that day. Bussed back and biked to the office to discuss the pending Ace of Spades contract, the future of Socialyte and various client work with Jimmy and G at Metro. At 6 I biked to Lyte to finalize the points for Socialyte and the Armen De Brignac contract (boss moves being made) and then biked home to design Eldridge things for a few hours before Carnegie and I walked back down to Scottsdale. I was supposed to stop by and see a shorty in a bikini fashion show but she dropped out, apparently they told all the girls they weren't being paid the morning of, and she's an east coast girl and wasn't having that. We searched high and low for 944 mags at Indigo etc. found out that EEG clubs no longer carry them because of the some promotions dramas (even though Yari and Salazar are in the issue...). From there me and Carn grabbed Jason from Lyte (it was his birthday) and made the rounds with him and Art, checked out said fashion show at Suede, which died when the show ended (and whose hapa bartender should come elope with me to foreign lands while we have beautiful mixed children, holler at me), gave props to J Alan, who plays our songs, chopped it with Matty Salazar and Gluck, went to Radius (dead) gave props to MCB and Q, went to Dirty Pretty (dead), gave props to Tilo and Hot Rod, went to PCL (super crackin) and left damn near immediately for reasons I don't remember. Went to Crown Room (dead) gave props to Dow, who started asking me about invoices for Socialyte which I immediately put on Jimmy (my bad). Back at Lyte (dead) we sat and took shots and I donated $10 to help animals and Cutswell played Gravity and a vip hostess from one of the clubs took me home and we talked about her life and the broken dreams of various lives. As she left a 37 year old from Boston Carnegie met outside Crown Room pulled up (???) with her friend and I entertained them until Carn came back and they smoked cigarettes outside after DK got up and told us to turn down the music (never be an accountant, warning two) and then we got rid of them and I picked up cigarette butts from the lawn in the midst of the sprinklers before talking to Carn until 5am and crashing out.
Woke up at 10, ate a bagel, hit up Soulman, who was in Peoria, then banged out more designs and set up for a photo shoot at 1 with a producer Rhythm ID whose a super nice guy and the most prepared man for a photo shoot ever, he came with 6 outfits, his mpc and keyboard, and all sorts of ideas, which makes my life far easier. Practiced our Furio set (yes, Silver Medallion practices, and extensively) Finished with him, walked with Carn to Fashion Square and had happy hour food at Pink Taco, which was utterly terrible but we finally found 944's and revelled in our pictures, then found out Soulman was at Hostile Clothing with Fox, spinning records, so we went up there and grabbed him. We went down to the food court and chopped it about digitally releasing our record and Japan and Shwayze (who is EVERYWHERE and who i'm beginning to despise) and then our table turned into the Scottsdale boss meeting as Nico came through and then Dow and his girl and all of a sudden everyone's talking 944 parties and Vegas djing and invoices. Lets let it be known now that Soulman holds it down (we're in your corner homie). After this we went back to Hostile, chopped it with Fox and bounced. Dropped by Planet Beach to look for DJ Jon (get me that money or I'll break your kneecaps lol, just playing) and the girl working there tried to explain who we were to the owners, which may or may not have worked because I think we bounced in the middle and we ran into other Planet Beach homie pulling in and then walked back to the crib. Hot Rod from G-Unit sent us an average beat to collab with him on, we posted Silva's Gravity remix to AZ beats and I designed a little for an hour. From there DK came home and we hit LA fitness and then got dressed for the 944 launch party (crackin) where everyone looked at us like we were lower class (Silver Medallion about to be laughing last motherfuckers) and DJ Earth played Sinden and was killing it and I made out with a woman with two masters degrees for no apparent reason and we left as Gurian and Gluck came in right after I ran into one of my ex's, a beautiful intelligent girl who I broke up with on the phone when I was in college after months of dating for no reason, kind of a super asshole move, and that kinda tore up my night (i get sensitive about these things, don't know why) and I probably won't call her which is too bad, then we went to Joe's so DK could eat. Saw a club GM on the way looking for yak and looking a general mess and I wondered how these people surivive the nightlife industry for so long. Carn bounced to meet a girl and DK and I then went to Cin Cin to show love to JD for the Forbidden Fridays I did the flyer for and I saw Alvin who I'd assumed had died and heard Naram's name come up (get me that money or I'll get goons to sell your plasma, if they'd even take it, no laughing). We left and I fell in love with a Mulligans promo girl (why did you all have to walk away while I gave my number to Beatclub homie?!? I'm gonna find you girlie, swear it, all i have is a vgpromo.com picture of us to go by, but ima make it happen). We passed Suede where Tyler had a table, but I wanted to get home by midnight so DK went to Drift to holler at shorty and I went to Lyte to show love to everybody, saw the Serbians on the way, who didn't realize previously we were actually doing it big, then they saw the 944 and wanted to show love (i got respect for yall), and then we dropped a bunch of girls off at San Marcos and came home, where I am now. From there I downloaded the Santogold songs my computer erased when I got the new mac OS and I've had them on repeat while I've been writing this. Now I plan to go to bed, handle client work tomorrow, go out with a nice girl for dinner and not go to the club. Fear and Loathing in Scottsdale. I've been back for 60 hours.
