"It's crazy how this life unfolds,
all they say is,
roll with the punches,
roll with the punches,
No, I just wanna let go
drift till there ain't no more
roll with the punches,
roll with the punches..."
Ah New York.
Things are better here. The quote above is from a song that my now departed friend Jason and I shared as a favorite, composed by our friend Matthew Forcefed. At the end of the day I made it here, and we'll see what happens now. I forgot just the basic cliched magic of what goes on around this city, how many times so far today I've fallen in love with a backwards glance on the subway, how some of my friends and various Punahou grads are involved in the purchase and running of a tea shop in the village and you can just walk in next to the cleaners and shady massage parlor and it FEELS like Hawaii and everyone's from there and if their not their okay because they feel the same feeling that makes everyone like the place. Or even how I scare everyone more than they scare me when I run at night, or the mobs of kids of all races etc just being kids in our neighborhood.
So here I am, putting together my resume, new promo for my flyer work to secure some club contracts, setting up turntables, calling connections, getting established in a new place, pretty excited for how it'll all turn out. Cup of Newman's lemonade, french bread and olive oil, music in the headphones, there seems to be no reason to sleep and all the reason to create.
