7am, been working all night on web stuff and compiling and filing the bpms (beats per minute) for most of my electro dj stuff, ill continue through the hip hop and database it all this week. As the djing begins to get more and more serious, im learning to approach it more and more like a business or school scenario, and that means doing my homework. I always assumed that going at it like that would take all the fun out of it, and djing is one of the few things ive enjoyed doing my whole life, a large reason i was locked in my room past the age of 13 and never emerged with much homework completed... I was wrong though, organizing and approaching it more proffessionally has actually been rewarding, and while ive always been the type to have my vinyl alphabetized or genre coded or whatever, adding bpms to that and being able to burn sets of cds designed to make the amount of searching i have to do to beatmatch much less is going to be a real nice change.
Most djs I see now are using the computer software linked to vinyl of cds to dj, its almost a monopoly, but for some reason i can't deal with those programs, maybe its because i stare at a screen all day already, but turning djing visual instead of audio is just kind of counter-intuitive to the way i learned it, and i don't like the style. I enjoy the cd and vinyl together, the cds thing is easy, my strength has always been song selection and the ease of cds and the ability to get new music is great, but i do have a wide variety of stuff on vinyl thats not on cd, and i like the feel anyway, despite having to lug a 50 pound crate everywhere.
The clock keeps ticking, my schedule is very strange now, i sleep 8 to 1 or 2 every day, and i've lost reasoning as to why... Hopefully more visuals the next few days!
