Its not easy to stand out amidst the many graphic designers and artists who are designing now, using a combination of well lit and composed but uninspired photography and photoshopped type to try and leap from shelves. I use the same tools, but am trying to do it differently, carve out a visual style that won't just define me as an artist, but will encourage others to step outside of the box visually. I'm not sure what inspires this generation of designers, it's not the past, I see little influence of swiss styles, or even recent postmodernism, or any modernism for that manner, in anything new. While I'm not working with these influences directly either, I feel it is my duty as a designer to help form a unique style for my area and generation of design that will help set it apart from other periods and from its peers. I wonder if my competitors feel the same drive.
